President Bush Assured Liberians of U.S. Support, Pledges One Million Text Books for Liberian Schools

The President of the United States of America, George Walker Bush who is on a one day official visit to Liberia as part of his eight nations African tour today assured Liberians of his government’s support to the growth and development of the West African State.
Amidst applause from officials of the Liberian government, members of the diplomatic corp. and his entourage, Mr. Bush further told the Liberian people, adding, “Together with the help of the United Nations Mission in Liberia, we're working to heal the wounds of war, and strengthen democracy, and build a new armed forces that will be a source of security for the Liberian people instead of a source of terror”, the American leader stressed.
The American President also announced his government’s willingness to provide one million textbooks, as well as desks and seating for at least 10,000 Liberian school children by the start of the country’s next academic year.
On the issue of the country debt relief, Mr. Bush said, “We are working to lift the burden of debt, so that Liberia can achieve her potential, and unleash the entrepreneurial spirit of her citizens. We're working to help the children of Liberia get a good education, so they will have the skills they need to turn their freedom into a future of prosperity and peace”, Mr. Bush lamenting the efforts of the Liberian people stressed.
Concluding, President said, “I am pleased to visit your land. I thank you for the invitation. I thank the Liberian people for courage and steadfastness and enduring faith in the power of freedom. With your continued determination, there is no doubt in my mind that Liberia will become a beacon of liberty for Africa and the world, and you will forever uphold the "Lone Star."
Earlier, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf praised Mr. Bush for his government’s unflinching support to the Liberian people and government during their difficult years; adding, “we are proud of you and your government for the support given us over the years”, President Sirleaf in a joyous mood told Mr. Bush and his entourage.
During the visit, President Bush and his entourage witnessed the splendid performance of members of the new Liberian Army at the Barclay Training Center trained by members of the United States Military experts.
Meanwhile, the American President and his entourage left the Liberia for home, the United States after spending nearly seven hours in the country.
