Liberia: Coach Hey scores passing grade as Sudan bows down to Liberia 0-2
Mar 27, 2008
by Michael Kpayili / Staff Writer

The Liberia National team, the Lone Star on Wednesday March 25 beat her Sudanese counterpart 2-0 in an international friendly held in Khartoum. The match which was the first under the watchful eyes of the newly contracted German Coach Antoine Hey brought together local Stars blended with some Indonesian based Liberian Stars to brave the challenge over their Sudanese counterparts.

According to a dispatch from Khartoum, despite the absent of some key foreign based players from Europe and other parts of the World, who were invited by the Liberia Football Association, the local Stars blended with the Indonesian Stars currently vacationing in Monrovia managed to prove supreme over the Sudanese National team.

The Sudan national team has been very active in the past five years with its participation in major tournament like the African Cup of Nations. Coach Antoine Hey is contracted with the Liberia Lone Star to prepare the team for its pending 2010 African Cup of Nations and the World Cup qualifying rounds. The World Cup is scheduled for South Africa.

Information gathered indicates that following the international friendly with Sudan, the Lone Star is expected to host her Sierra Leonean counterpart before departing Liberia from the Federal Republic of Germany in May, where it would commence intensive training in preparation of securing tickets for the World Cup and the African Cup of Nations in 2010.

The two goals according to a dispatch from Sudan were scored by Steve Manneh and Koko Lormel both of Indonesia league. The goals were scored in the second half of the game.
