Apr 16, 2008
by Michael Kpayili / Staff Writer
Barely fifteen hours after President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf address to the Nation highlighting the increase wave of Armed Robbery in Liberia, Robbers are said to be defiling the Liberian Leader warning of curbing armed robbery in the country.
The latest news of armed robbery occurred at the proximity of Monrovia where over eight men armed with cutlasses entered a worship center scraping women nicked in search of valuables. The women have assembled at the Wisdom Ministry International Church on Caldwell outside Monrovia to observe an all-night women’s tarry.
According to an eye-witness, the robbers entered the Church edifice at 2:15 am and ransacked the entire worshippers most of whom were women. After hours of severe torture, the worshippers give-in to the demands of the robbers and gave away their cell-phone, jewelries and other valuables in their possession.
Armed robbery in Liberia has degenerated to an alarming proportion with President Ellen Johnson informing the State on a plan to drastically deal with the increase wave of arm robbery. In her address to the nation, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf expressed determination to institute tougher action in two months period even if her action will be unpopular among detractors.
The Liberian National Police has arrested two persons in connection with the Tuesday, April 16, armed robbery incident.
