Liberia: UN Secretary-general Ban Ki-Moon visits Liberia

The Secretary-general of the United Nations Ban Ki-Moon at the head of a high power United Nations delegation arrives in Liberia today April 21, 2008 in continuation of his tour of Africa.
According to the Ministry of Information release, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon will visit key projects instituted by the United Nations Institutions in Liberia and discuss prominent issue with officials of the Liberian Government. Mr. Ban Ki-Moon is expected to land at the Robert International Airport at the evening hours and per tradition, the keys of the City of Monrovia will be turned over to the UN Secretary-general by Monrovia City Mayor Ophelia Hoff-Saytumah.
Mr. Ki-Moon and delegation will meet the United Nations Staff on Tuesday morning, April 22, to have some formal insight and briefing from the United Nations organizations in Liberia. Although President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is out of the country, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon per protocol will meet with Vice President Joseph Boakai to discuss issues surrounding National Security and the implementation of the Millennium Development Goal.
The UN Secretary-general will address the joint session of the National Legislature after officially meeting with Vice President Boakai. The UN Boss will later meet with the cabinet at the Foreign Affairs Ministry where speeches and gowning ceremonies are expected to take place. Later on Tuesday afternoon, Mr. Ban ki-Moon will address a major Press Conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he will brief the press on issues surrounding his visit to Liberia.
Mr. Ki-Moon and delegation will finally depart Liberia for Burkina Faso. The visit of Mr. Ban Ki-Moon brings to two the visit of United Nations Secretary-general since the induction of Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf as President of Liberia. Former United Nations Secretary-general Kofi-Annan and delegation paid similar visit last year.
