Cllr.
Youth group under the banner of the Progress Youth for the Transformation of the governing Unity Party have expressed disappointment over statement made by the Political leader of the opposition Liberty Party Cllr. Charles Brumskine, that the Unity Party led Government should take responsibility for the unfortunate increase of prices of basic commodities on the Liberian market.
In a statement issued in Monrovia, the UP Youth group described claim made by the
Liberty Party flag bearer as “deceitful and misleading” and called on all Liberians in and
out of the country to join hands with the UP government in its endeavor to bring about the
needed development to the war-ravaged country.
The Progressive Youth group of Unity Party said anyone who has followed the trend of
development unfolding across the world, would agreed that there have been steady
increase in the prices of basic commodities such as rice and the Unity Party led
Government can not be blamed for situation that falls beyond its control.
The Youth group also disclosed in the statement that major producers of rice on the
World market such as Thailand, India and China have decided to curtail the exportation
of rice due to the increasing demand by domestic consumers in their respective countries.
Commenting on the increase in the price of oil, the UP Youth group maintained that the
price of oil has increased steadily for the past months from Eighty United States
Dollars per barrel to One hundred and seventeen United States Dollars per barrel
something which the group noted has also affected the market prices in Liberia. The
group wonder whether Cllr.Charles Brumskine is not aware of these facts for which he is blindly
accusing the government.
The prices of rice, gasoline and cement and even demostically made products like palm
oil and soap have sharply increase double its original prices something which the
government has consistently attribute it to global issues.
