Liberia: Primary student warns against academic mal-practice
Jul 25, 2008
by Michael Kpayili / Staff Writer
Authorities of the Ministry of Education have been reminded over the continuous educational mal-practices in the Liberian school system. Other Kleyon, Dux of the pre-first grade class of the Knowledge Foundation School said the constant camping ahead of the annual West African Examination Council Test pre-supposes the views that some students are not prepared to illustrate what they have achieved during their academic sojourn.
Little Othello Kleyon, age seven, expresses disappointment in some school authorities for supporting academic fraud in the Liberian school system. He named the acceptance of bribe by teachers, sex for grades and the proliferation of untrained teachers as some examples of academic fraud.
He lauded the president of Liberia Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for her support for primary education, judging from the implementation of a compulsory free primary education for Liberian students. Student Kleyon, who occasionally referred to the Liberian Leader as a “Grand Ma”, urged the Liberian Government through the Ministry of Education to provide subsidies for private schools in Liberia as a means of reducing the high attached school fees paid by parents sending their children to private schools.
Commenting on the increasing wave of armed robbery in Liberia, Student Kleyon recommends punitive actions against perpetrators but warns that such actions should be in conformity with the laws of Liberia . He pleaded with the Unity party led by the Government to create job opportunities for their parents. He added that once parents are on jobs, the certainty of joy and happiness would be maintained.
Also speaking at the program was Hon. John H. Kollie, the guest speaker of the 5th thankgiving and closing program at the Knowledge Foundation School. He thanked officials of the Ministry of Education for the current extension of the New Georgia Public School. He urges parents to ensure a solid foundation for their children if they want Liberia to transform from its ugly past. Mr.Kollie, who is also the Commissioner of the New Georgia Township, promised to personally implement the compulsory free primary education instituted by the Government by visiting homes to ascertain whether school-going children are not denied by parents and guardians.
