Jul 30, 2008
by Michael Kpayili / Staff Writer

In a bid to ensure the reduction of Malaria drugs by thirty percent in Liberia, former United States President Bill Clinton in furtherance of the progress of his foundation in the country is expected to arrive in the country this Saturday on a one-day official visit.

According to Presidential Press Secretary Cyrus Badio, the former United States President would arrive in Liberia on Saturday, August 2, 2008 and thereafter he will hold bilateral discussions with Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

The Clinton Foundation in Liberia is a non-profit initiative aimed at strategizing measures to deal with and control the fight against malaria. The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare via the Malaria Control Program implement the initiative.

Former United State President Bill Clinton served the American Government for two terms as President and his foundation have meaningfully contributed to the success of malaria control in Liberia according to the Malaria Control Program reports.

While in the country according to Presidential Press Secretary Cyrus Badio, the former President will participate in an interactive radio show, where members of the larger society would be expected to question him on issues surrounding the Clinton initiative. He will also interact with the press at which time Mr. Clinton would be expected to update them on the progress being made by his foundation in the quest to control and minimize the spread of malaria.

The arrival of former United States President Clinton to Liberia makes the second since the induction of Liberia’s President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. Beneficiaries of mosquito bed net distributed by the Clinton foundation have lauded the former U.S President for the initiative.
