by Michael Kpayili / Staff Writer
The House of Representatives has finally passed the Budget for the fiscal year July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009 with an increment of Twenty One Million United States Dollars. The draft National Budget was submitted to the National Legislature by the Executive branch of Government via the Budget Bureau with a stipulated amount of US6.8 Million.
After months of deliberations by the Honorable House of Representatives, US$ 21 Million was discovered in the revenue generating incomes of the country economy thereby building up the draft National budget to US$ 298,876,792.
Speaking to cross-section of reporters at the Capitol Building in Monrovia, House Committee Chairman Emmanuel Nuquei said the additional increment in the National Budget is mostly intended to support rural development stressing on the appropriation of One Million each to the fifteen political sub-division of the country.
Meanwhile, a resolution built to remove Grand Gedeh County Senator Isaac Nyenabo as President Pro-tempore of the Liberian Senate was cleverly escaped by the Senator quoting provision in their own standing rules. Nimba County Senator Adolphus Dolo raised a motion of amendment in Thursday agenda in order to include the resolution for debate. Senator Nyenabo argued to postpone further deliberation since it was not introduced on the floor in accordance with the senate standing rules which states that anything that needs to be injected on the agenda for the day’s deliberation must be presented within twenty four hours prior to session. Based on Rule 35 of the senate rule, a decision was reached to include the resolution and further deliberations during the next session on Tuesday.
A sensitive document was unearthed on the corridor of the National Legislature which twenty members of the senate signed a resolution declaring what they considered a “vote of no confidence” in the leadership of senator Nyenabo as President Pro-tempore of the Liberian senate for gross administrative ineptitude.
At the same time, five senators are believed to be eyeing the pro-tempore position and are therefore mobilizing supports to ensure the removal of Senator Isaac Nyenabo. According to reliable information gathered, Sinoe County Senator Mabatu Nyenpan, Grand Bassa County Gbehzohngar Findley, Bomi County Senator Lahai Lasana, Grand Kru County Cletus Wotorson and Bong County Senator Jewel Taylor are those believed to be eyeing the position.
The public is yet to consume the validity surrounding “gross administrative ineptitude” but the senators maintained that Senator Nyenabo as President Pro-tempore of the Liberian Senate has conducted himself both in the public and private domain in the manner and forms that have brought the integrity and credibility of the Honorable House of Senate into question. The senators also indicated in their resolution that the activities and utterances of Senator Nyenabo as Pro tempore of the senate have impugned on the moral rectitude of the Liberian senate.
Senator Nyenabo however appears not trouble over recent resolution in circulation surrounding his removal as President Pro-tempore of the Liberian Senate. In a related development, Grand Kru Senator Blamoh Nelson is appealing to his colleagues to disregard their quest to remove the President Pro-tempore of the Liberian senate. According to Senator Nelson, the removal of Leaders is not the appropriate decision after errors are established. He indicated that there is a crisis but maintained that such crisis can be resolved without removing Grand Gedeh County Senator Isaac Nyenabo as President Pro-tempore of the Honorable body.
