Bad roads condition in Gbarpolu County, one of Liberia’s newest Counties is hampering hundreds of citizens in that part of the country, whose survival depends on the sale of their local produce.
Vehicles are inaccessible in the area thus making rural dwellers in the county to suffer from the purchasing of the needy commodities for their daily lives.
“Before you venture to ply the Bomi/Gbarpolu highway, you must have a jeep or a truck before coming to the County”, a stranded visitor who made her way to the county to see some relatives in Weasua Town told the GNN in an exclusive interview.
Due to the bad condition of roads in the County, some mouth-watering edibles such as peanuts, biscuits and other commodities are scare on the local market in the area, a situation many of those spoke to described as terrible.
A local medical practitioner who spoke to our reporter in Weasua Town with anonymity also said it was difficult to transfer patients whose health situation is above the local reach, “My brother it is worrisome to see people carrying patients in harmers and in the wheelbarrows. Some times as far as Tubmanburg, Bomi County for treatment due to the lack of vehicles”, the medical practitioner in an interview said.
Explaining further, the Medical Practitioner said some times these patients pass of (die) before reaching the referrer hospital in Tubmanburg. It is because of the bad condition of our road. Companies operating here have refused to recondition these roads”, in a sad mood the Weasua health worker stressed.
This health workers is among dozens of other residents in the area who spoke to the GNN regarding the bad condition of their roads in the County, “We are pleading to the National Government and our Legislative Caucus to do something about our roads”, a student of the University of Liberia in a chat with our reporter in the area.
