Liberia: Minister Woods assumes leadership at Public Works Ministry

Newly appointed Minister of Public Works Samuel Kofi Woods has taken over the gavel of authority at the Ministry of Public Works. The ceremony which saw segments of different societal backgrounds including prelates, market women, employees of Labour and Public Works, government officials took place at the premises of the Ministry of Public Works.
At a brief but quality occasion, outgoing Public Works Minister Luseni Donzo pay tribute to her Excellency Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for the confidence she has and continue to have in him to be part of her legacy as not only the first female President, but also, a replica of what he believes a President should be.
Outlining some achievements instituted at the Ministry of Public Works during his administration, Minister Donzo, now Advisor to President Sirleaf on infrastructure maintained that the landscape of Monrovia has changed naming several completed project in Monrovia. He named the pavement of roads from Freeport of Monrovia via Somalia drive to Red-Light and thru ELWA junction to Tubman BLVD and back to the Freeway intersection as major achievements instituted during his administration. Besides, donor intervention in all the counties according to Mr. Donzo, contracts have been awarded for the pavement of Monrovia streets including Roads from Caldwell junction to St. Paul Bridge and the reconstruction of Vai Town Bridge. He further revealed that plans and activities are underway to do the Caldwell Bridge and to lunch 27 Bailey Bridges across the country.
The outgoing Minister of Public Works also revealed to the public that the ongoing road construction between the Bopolu to Belle Yalla and the Brewerville to Bopolu road is gradually proceeding according to plan. Commenting on the controversy Jallah Town road project in Monrovia, Mr. Donzo indirectly defended the accomplishment of the project. He said although the project was headed by his deputy Ministers, he takes all blames and responsibilities for any leakage.
He urged everyone including employees of the Ministry of Public Works to support the new Public Works Minister Samuel Kofi Woods as he steer the affairs of the Ministry.
For his part, incoming Public Works Minister Samuel Kofi Woods extended praises to his predecessor for instituting some administrative and technical reforms at the Ministry of Public Works. He pledged to work along with all former Public Works Ministers in achieving the needed mandate of reform at the institution.
Guests in attendance at the occasion were Senators, Representatives, former Ministers of Public Works, market women and officials of government from both the Ministries of Labour and Public Works.
The ceremony took the second stage where the head of the Catholic Church in Liberia, father Andrew Karnley consecrated the office of the Minister of Public Works for God’s divine blessing, protection and direction.
