Liberia: TRC report categorizes mockery to justice

The fairness and decision of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission ultimate report though inexhaustible as the Commission termed it to be needs somber scrutiny. The final report leaves sufficient vacuum for future political and military terrorization and also create the proclivity to uproar anarchy and wreck the already fragile peace and threaten the stability and reconciliation Liberians have long been yearning for.
After digesting the Commission’s report, several questions were developed as to the independent, credibility and the ability of the Commission to create a recipe that would bring back lasting peace and reconciliation among our people and nation. According to the TRC report, all those associated with former warring fictions, their leaders, political decision makers, financiers, organizers, commanders, foot soldiers shall be subject to public sanctions in one form or another. If one could take association under the Liberian constitution into consideration, an in depth analysis could be drawn that Association is not a crime. It is the commission of the crime itself that makes one to be held liable for his /her actions.
After methodical investigation, it has be confirmed that some prominent individuals names appeared on the TRC ‘thirty years ban from public office whether appointed or elected’ without affording them the opportunities to appear before the TRC. Names like Nya Maintein, Byron Tarr, Tarnue Mawolo, Toga McIntosh et al were not accorded the opportunity to be heard. The act of one being considered culpable before being heard is unlawful and sharply projects the prejudice associated with the TRC process.
TRC in their astuteness granted people pardon because they were said to have spoken the ‘truth’, while certain group of people were recommended for prosecution and some been disqualified for thirty years from public office. On what basis the TRC considered as ‘the truth’ for which it now recommends clemency for certain category of perpetrators? Article 26 (D) of the TRC constitution prohibits clemency for those who committed hideous crimes. For example, Joshua Blayee commonly known as (General Butt Naked) admitted before the TRC of killing over twenty thousand (20,000) people but yet provided clemency by the TRC. Another notorious ex-fighter, Morris Padmore of the invalid NPFL, who is believed to have instituted the killings of the five Catholic Nuns during the Octopus of October 1992 after receiving huge fund from some Western Insurance Company in a bid to force the United States Government to stop the war in Liberia, was also given clemency. What derision to justice.
A research concerning the killings of the Catholic Nuns which is nearly complete with a highest level of corroboration is expected to be made public in a moderately short period of time to give detail of the conspiracy in the killings of the Catholic Nuns. These conspiracies include self-interested and devilish plans from some big Insurance Company to have their business interest protected at the disadvantage of Humanitarian who left their comforts to assist needed Liberians during the period of the civil in Liberia. Commissioners of the TRC from the initial stage of the operations of the Commission have been divided with some blaming the others of instigating lies against witness appearing before the Commission. Even at the end, the report that should be considered as tools for working has still been questioned by some members of the Commission. What a shame and blunder.
