(BARCLAYVILLE, GRAND KRU, JANUARY 7, 2010): Grand Kru County Superintendent, Madam Roseline T. Sneh, has launched a serious attack on certain unscrupulous citizens of the county, who she described as detractors and enemies of progress and development.
According to Superintendent Sneh, these unscrupulous citizens of the County have engaged into political criminality and disunity to create chaos and undermine ongoing developmental projects in the county.
In her reaction to a recent front-page story published in The INQUIRER Newspaper entitled: Political Crisis over Grand Kru Capital”, the Superintendent vehemently denounced the publication attributed to one Mr. Toe, who claimed to be a son of the county, describing the report as fabrication, baseless and unfounded.
According to her, the intent of the story is to sow seeds of discord and disunity amongst the peaceful citizens of Grand Kru County , saying that the story has the propensity to derail the much needed development that is being delivered to the people of Grand Kru under the able leadership of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
The Superintendent expressed dissatisfaction over the story which, according to he, lacks objectivity and balance reportage, by making any contact with her office or any member of the County Legislative Caucus.
She said as to the merit of the story, Grandcess has never been capital of Grand Kru County, saying that Grandcess was the Capital City of the then Kru Coast Territory under Maryland County, while Sasstown was capital of the then Sasstown Territory under Sinoe County, and Gee City was the seat of Buah Statutory District, the second oldest statutory district in the country next to Careysburg.
According to her, on April 12, 1984, the PRC Government under the Head of State Samuel Kanyon Doe issued Decree #87 which merged the two territories to the District of Buah to create Grand Kru County . She said the Doe regime selected Barclayville as Capital due to its centrality and also to quell the traditional political rivalry between Sasstown and Grandcess at the time.
“If Grandcess wants to reclaim its past glory as claimed by the unidentifiable “Mr. Toe”, then what happens to the coastal City of Sasstown and the traditional district seat of Gee City ,” she asked, saying that they too will lay claim to the headquarter-ship of Grand Kru County .
On the issue of the Rally Time Hospital in Grandcess, Superintendent Sneh said the hospital was constructed by the late President William R. Tolbert in 1974 – the same year he constructed the road from Kanweaken to Grandcess Waterside, and to Sasstown Beach , under the Rally Time Program, noting that Barclayville City has only one Health Center .
According to her, the Barclayville Health Center was constructed under the Administration of Dr. Peter Coleman, former Minster of Health and Social Welfare, with funding from the African Development Bank (ADB). She further explained that the Health Center should have been forty (40) bedrooms, even though it is not quite 10 bedrooms.
She said: last year the Rally Time Hospital operated on US,000.00 budget while Barclayville Health Center (BHC) operated on only US,000 from the government, and added that this year; the Rally Time Hospital is running on US0,000 budgetary allotment with no interference while the Barclayville Health Center received a budgetary allocation of US,000.
The end of last year, the Office of the Superintendent officially launched the Medical/Surgical Outreach and several other activities are ongoing there. But Barclayville Health Center is not even fully functional as a Health Center . So who is marginalizing whom? Where is the marginalization by the County Superintendent ? She asked.
Speaking further, she said the Ministry of Health has planned to upgrade the Barclayville Health Center , to hospital status in the future, saying that Government’s modus operandi shows that all heads of Line Ministries in the County have their offices in the Capital and so the County Health Officer will not be an exception.
“For those of you my readers who knew Barclayville at the time Grand Kru County was created, come and see the difference now, let no one deceive you; there is no where in Grand Kru that is so-called developed as they claimed”, she noted.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Sneh is admonishing the citizens of Grand Kru to bury their differences and put the County first. She urged the citizens of Grand Kru to do away with divisive tendencies but should rather cultivate those things that will unite the people.
Superintendent Sneh is appealing to the Liberian media against sowing poisonous seeds of selfishness and disharmony, saying that the media should instead be agent of unity, oneness and patriotism. The release signed by Benedict Sayeh Administrative Assistant to the County Superintendent concluded
